Thailand Talks

The main objective of this practice, promoted by the Friedrich Naumann Foundation for Freedom, is to create a safe public space for dialogue between people with opposing political views in a context marked by intense polarization, especially since the pandemic. Inspired by the German model “My Country Talks”, the initiative fosters one-on-one meetings between individuals with differing opinions, with the aim of reducing tensions and promoting mutual understanding.

Deliberative Assemblies

The main goal of this practice, led by Extituto, is to open politics to historically excluded sectors and build citizen participation processes that are clear, fair, and impactful. Through the implementation of citizens’ assemblies and deliberative formats tailored to each territory, Extituto seeks to strengthen democratic inclusion and co-responsibility between citizens and government.

Citizens’ Assemblies and Mini-Publics for Public Decision-Making

The main goal of this practice, led by Delibera Brasil and presented by Silvia Cervellini, is to create institutionalized spaces where citizens can participate in an informed and strategic way in public decisions. Through citizens’ assemblies and mini-publics organized via civic lotteries, the practice fosters representative, deliberative, and responsible participation—especially in contexts of inequality and exclusion.

Resurgentes – Climate Assemblies Consortium

The main goal of this practice, led by Extituto with support from organizations like Delibera Brasil and Democracia en Red, was to generate a multi-stakeholder participatory process to address the issue of solid waste management in Buenaventura, a city marked by deep inequalities, forced displacement, and structural violence. The assembly emerged as the culmination of five years of territorial work and was inspired by deliberative methodologies developed in Latin America

Modular Deliberative Forums, DEMDIS

DEMDIS emerged as a response to a deeply polarized context, where misinformation and distrust in institutions have fragmented public discourse. In this environment, the practice seeks to restore the value of citizen dialogue by creating carefully curated digital spaces where individuals with divergent views can listen to one another without fear or hostility.
