New voices, new rules: Democratic Experiments that Redraw the Map

Book: Chronicles. Conversation Between Art, Technology and Community

Chronicle_01/Publication_02

Synopsis

This chronicle explores how three initiatives in different parts of the world are transforming citizen participation and democracy.

In India, Civis translates complex laws into accessible language, enabling citizens to provide feedback and propose changes, with significant impact on legislation.

In Slovakia, DEMDIS creates structured debates that foster dialogue between opposing perspectives, using technology to find unexpected consensus.

In Nigeria, ARTvocacy uses art as a tool for expression and political participation, empowering young people to address social issues and propose solutions.

These initiatives arise as a response to distrust in traditional institutions, social divisions, and the disconnect between citizens and politicians. Through technology, dialogue, and art, they are redefining democracy from the ground up, facing challenges such as citizen skepticism and institutional resistance. Together, they represent a democratic revolution aimed at making participation more inclusive, creative, and effective.
