#DIGITALPARTICIPATION / #DEMTECH
The main goal of Civic Voices, an initiative presented by Daniel Orogo and developed by Democracy Moves, is to facilitate public participation in Kenya through a technological platform that allows citizens to express opinions, ask questions, and access essential information for decision-making. The practice focuses on creating an accessible, affordable, and safe channel for interaction between government and society that is more open, transparent, and efficient.
The platform collects data on citizen participation, responds to public inquiries, and delivers valuable insights to public institutions, while protecting user anonymity. Its development took around a year and currently has over 25,000 active users. One of the main challenges was the lack of technical knowledge among some public officials, which led to the creation of training and support processes.
Civic Voices also includes a sustainability model based on consulting services for governments interested in replicating the tool. Moreover, it is preparing to expand through civic education and voter training programs ahead of the 2027 elections, showing a commitment to institutionalizing digital participation.
