#LEGISLATIVETHEATRE
A Legislative Theater process that brings together the artistic and creative knowledge of young people from marginalized communities in the Kosove State of Lagos. It is a process that seeks to decentralize technical language and promote diverse dialogue scenarios between members of the City Council, young people, and social organizations. In the implementations carried out in 2025, they successfully prioritized the low youth employability rate as a central problem and generated a document of joint proposals and solutions to be sent to the president of the Council, aiming to articulate initiatives among entrepreneurs, decision-makers, and other stakeholders.
The main goal of ARTvocacy Movement in Nigeria is to integrate creative arts as a tool for expression, social change, and youth engagement in politics—seeking to address corruption and create inclusive spaces that strengthen democracy. The objective of the process is to generate concrete public policy proposals that enable young people to participate in political processes without relying on political patrons or inherited partisan affiliations.
At its core, the initiative addresses barriers to youth participation by facilitating dialogue with community leaders and politicians and by building dynamic civic deliberation platforms.
- Use of creative arts for social change, employing Legislative Theatre and other artistic forms as tools for awareness, expression, and proposal generation.
- Promoting youth political participation by identifying and addressing key obstacles.
- Development of inclusive deliberative methodologies to identify problems and co-create solutions among youth, civil society, community leaders, and decision-makers.
- Collaborative work and strategic alliances with local and international organizations, local governments, and political actors to amplify impact.
- Youth training and empowerment in Legislative Theatre and deliberation skills to enable effective political engagement.
- ARTvocacy Movement successfully developed and tested a model of Legislative Theatre adapted to the Nigerian context, clearly identifying barriers to youth participation and building an inclusive deliberative model that fosters dialogue with local leaders and policymakers. As a result of the first lab implemented in 2024, awareness materials were produced, and collaboration among youth, civil society organizations, and local governments was strengthened.
- The implementation process is still ongoing and seeks to further train youth ambassadors in legislative theatre, public speaking for advocacy, and empowerment strategies to replicate the experience across the territories where the organization operates.
